About the Department of Transportation Summer Internship Program (DOTSI)

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s (US DOT) Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) manages the annual Department of Transportation Summer Internship (DOTSI) program. The intent of DOTSI aims to mentor and cultivate the next generation of transportation leaders through hands-on experience and on-the-job training in current transportation-related topics and issues. A key focus is providing opportunities to students, motivating their entrance into the transportation field by providing meaningful work experiences that are instrumental in their professional growth within the industry.

Interns will gain valuable experience through field trips to national transportation projects, conferences, workshops, decision-making meetings, and other special events aligned with their work assignments. Additionally, housing and airfare expenses are covered under the program and GMG will offer 10-weeks of short-term health insurance for all interns.

The primary goal of DOTSI is to mentor and cultivate the next generation of transportation leaders. By working closely with professionals in the field, students develop a deeper understanding of transportation issues, enhance their resumes, and build a network of industry contacts.

Program Benefits: Compensation includes a pre-tax stipend of $5500 for undergraduates and $7500 for graduate and law students.
